Calidad de planta de Enterolobium cyclocarpum y Swietenia humilis. Colegio de Postgraduados
Basave Villalobos, Erickson.

Establishing Acacia salicina under dry Mediterranean conditions: The effects of nursery fertilization and tree shelters on a mid-term experiment with saline irrigation Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Oliet,Juan A; Planelles,Rosa; Artero,Francisco; Domingo-Santos,Juan M.
The restoration of dry lands in the Mediterranean is a challenging task because harsh abiotic conditions hamper the counteraction of feed-back degradation processes. Active restoration through planting must be performed to deter this process. In this study, we tested the influence of mineral nutrition in the nursery (two formulations of controlled release fertilizer at two rates each) and tree protection after planting (by using tube shelters) on the nine-year performance of Acacia salicina irrigated with low-quality (saline) water. The overall survival at the end of the study period was 58.2%, with the electrical conductivity of the soil saturation extract reaching 5.4 dSm-1 after nine years. The survival and growth (in height) were greater for seedlings...

Santos,Ricardo Miranda dos; Serrano,Luiz Augusto Lopes; Taniguchi,Carlos Alberto Kenji; Artur,Adriana Guirado; Natale,William; Corrêa,Márcio Cleber de Medeiros.
ABSTRACT Foliar fertilization is an important agricultural technique that has stood out for its ease of use and can contribute to the production of high-quality and -vigor cashew seedlings. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of foliar fertilizer rates and time of application on ‘BRS 226’ dwarf cashew seedlings after grafting. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, with five treatments and 24 replicates. Each experimental unit consisted of one plant. The commercial product (NPK 20-20-20) was used at the recommended rate for fruit crops in general, 2.5 g L-1. Foliar fertilizer applications at 45 and 60 days after grafting (DAG), with 50% of the recommended rate (1.25 g L-1), or at 80 DAG, with 100% of the...

Poletto,Igor; Muniz,Marlove Fátima Brião; Poletto,Tales; Stefenon,Valdir Marcos; Baggiotto,Carine; Ceconi,Denise Ester.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of seed stratification on germination rate, germination speed, and initial development of seedlings of six pecan (Carya illinoinensis) cultivars under subtropical climatic conditions in southern Brazil. For stratification, the seeds were placed in boxes with moist sand, in a cold chamber at 4°C, for 90 days. In the fourteenth week after sowing, the emergence speed index, total emergence, plant height, stem diameter, and number of leaves were evaluated. Seed stratification significantly improves the germination potential and morphological traits of the evaluated cultivars.

Growth of bare root Pinus taeda, L. seedlings cultivated under five densities in nursery Scientia Agricola
Carneiro,José Geraldo de Araújo; Barroso,Deborah Guerra; Soares,Luis Maurício da Silva.
Seedlings compete for nutrients, water and light. The available area for each seedling affects their behavior related to requirements for these resources. This experiment evaluated the influence of five plant densities on the growth of bare root Pinus taeda, L. seedlings in a nursery after outplanting. The analyzed characteristics were: height (H), root collar diameter (D), H/D ratio, and dry matter weight. Higher densities stimulated H growth and the lowest densities increased D average and dry matter weight and lowered the H/D ratio. Seedlings were distributed by H, D and H/D classes. Higher densities had a larger number of seedlings in larger H classes. Larger numbers of seedlings with larger D and lower H/D ratios were found in lower densities. Ten...

Seed conditioning of red oak: a recalcitrant North American seed Scientia Agricola
Struve,D.K..
A ten day aerated water soak was developed as a seed conditioning treatment for red oak (Quercus rubra L.). Conditioned seeds had higher germination completeness, uniformity and speed compared to control seeds. Seeds could be conditioned under a wide range of temperatures and durations. Conditioned seeds were maintained at 7(0)C for 30 days without loss of seed quality. During conditioning, pericarps split in response to seed hydration. Split pericarps could be used as a pre-sowing indicator for high quality seeds. Seed conditioning was ineffective on dormant seeds. Increased crop uniformity and higher stand establishment can be realized by subjecting red oak acorns to an aerated water soak treatment followed by selecting seeds with split pericarps. These...
